I previously talked about how Lavoisier and Ben Franklin invented the clinical trial to debunk medical quack Anton Mesmer. Let's talk about the invention of the double-blind trial, which was developed to prove definitively, in Nuremberg, Germany in 1835, that homeopathy is a scam.

Friedrich Wilhelm von Hoven, the head of all the hospitals in Nuremberg in 1835, wrote a series of essays attacking the practice of homeopathy which was all the rage in elite circles in Germany. The response from homeopaths was a challenge to trial the therapy: try a C30 dilution of salt.

I love that homeopathy was more effective than many medicines back then because it’s just hydration!

189 years later, this quackery is still all the rage here in Germany. 🫠
