A weird fact about the carob tree: In an effort to attract carrion flies that help pollinate it, the tree breaks down amino acid lysine into 'cadaverine' found in corpses, but also lots of 'spermidine,' which is found in semen. So the flowers have an unpleasant smell described as 'semen-like'.
