Agreed, and at the same time, any person should not need to feel personally imperiled to care about anything that’s happening to their fellow humans. It’s basic society to protect and support each other as best we can. That this is so often not the case is heinous. 😠
The time we need to be the most actively attuned to ingroup/outgroup politics is when we are the ingroup, because that is when it’s easiest to ignore. As a cis white dude this has been a long-simmering wake up call.
