Personally I got my chest reduction not as an assertion of independence or to conform to beauty standards, but to save myself from back pain and the mental distress of having breasts the size of an Eiken character. But how can I claim to know more than the NYT

Coincidentally after trying on 6 bras (still with/ discomfort despite dropping sizes) I read this in the NYT. Good for you! The article seemed to take some of the agency away from those opting for surgery, framing them as possibly weak victims of societal pressure. It was annoying
