Kroger doesn’t give you a grocery discount. It’s a discount on gas, 10 - 20 cents or so a gallon. Since it’s not directly tied to the object you’re purchasing, there’s a separation there which means it’s not scrutinized.

Unnecessary. Unless you walk in to buy one or just a few items, most people don’t remember the price of every item they put in their cart and compare it to what gets scanned. It would be very easy to get away with.
