I think this is ultimately a question of responsibility. I think it's my job as a consumer to figure out the standards, quality and ethics of the bg content creators I follow. I agree that people can easily fall into the traps, but hey, if you choose to be a seducer that doesn't do their research...

... Over time, people start to distinguish between researched content and gut shot content, I think. It's a problem for the excitable newbies of the hobby, I would venture? I mean, we all have paid our Lehrgeld in the past. I wonder if there even is a way to stop people from chasing the hype train.
