I loved JRPGs too, although I guess that was pretty much for me limited to Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy growing up (I still like those games!) The remakes and remasters etc. have updated them pretty well. It's stuff like PC RPGs-- Gold Box AD&D games, Might and Magic, etc. that daunt me.

The only one I had as a kid was Eye of the Beholder, and it's the only one I've ever made headway in - possibly because of that familiarity, possibly because you just start in a dungeon and there's nowhere to go but forward. Can't accidentally wander into the wrong place or miss something important.
