Whilst it's probably a typically neoliberal lack of joined up thinking and a belief that counting paperclips=financial responsibility, let us not forget that, in the early days of the railways, many of the wealthy considered that the poor being able to travel represented a threat to the status quo.

That’s true, but life moved on a long way since those days when many people didn’t leave the villages they were born in. Now ppl routinely commute for work but don’t actually get paid much I’d like to see focus on going after companies/individuals swerving tax in the UK but taking the benefits
