I was excited to read a WaPo opinion piece by Mark C. Taylor, who teaches philosophy of religion at Columbia, but was disappointed when it turned out to be merely the bellyaching of an old guy
Sounds like he hates teaching and should retire
Just checking: did a philosopher of religion make these claims about what the 'real world' would be? I find that ironic, to be honest... 🙄😉😃
Except there are extensions in the real world all the time…
There are tons of extensions in the real world! I have to ask for extensions all the time, both formally (like motions to the court) and informally ("sorry, I just didn't get to the dishes")
By contrast, I have a standing offer of extensions on asking, with no reason or justification required. It works extremely well, and not many students need it.
Actually hilariously obtuse and indicative of the ivory tower he lives in. In every business and in government, missed deadlines are the norm; made ones are the exception.
lol there are absolutely extensions in the real world. just last week i got a call from the gas company regarding a “call before you dig” i put in for work being like “hey our guy is swamped, can we do monday instead”
There are no extensions in the real world!? Has this guy ever worked in the real world?
My thesis advisor gave me a year-long extension. I learned a lot as a result, including that the guy was cool as hell.
