Looks like a technicolor still life painting!
At one point, Nix was 5/10 for -9 yards, and I almost don't know how that's even possible.
My response to Will & Harper, as a cis ally, is that it was thoughtful and touching. I applaud Will Ferrell, but he'll be fine no matter what: insulated from those who will hate him, more beloved by those who love him. It is Harper who was and is vulnerable here. I hope she finds her happiness. 💐
Reading proofs for a journal that does not use the Oxford comma, and my piece is now sprinkled with what feel to me like infelicities and, in a few cases, ambiguities. First-world problem, but still (mildly) frustrating.
Not thinking of those.
Dramatically.
And to be clear: I'm excluding the very lightly edited "conference proceedings" from my assessment. That seems like a different genre to me.
It could be (probably is) discipline-specific. There has always been a culture of the big and ambitious edited volume in my fields (a little less so in modern History, I *think*). I don't know if it's true in, say, English or Anthropology...
When I was in grad school in the late '90s (ancient history/classics), a journal article seemed *far* more important/prestigious than a chapter in an edited volume. Today? I see a journal article and a substantial chapter in a serious/ambitious edited volume as more or less interchangeable.
Good point.
