If you treat 'immigration' as policy rather than about a claim to whom America belongs, *you're playing the wrong game.* Immigration is the core of a politics oriented around friends & enemies. But Dems are treating it as if it admits of compromise, like any other policy in a pluralist politics.
So the people in charge seem to be betting on an unthinkable escalation of violence in American life for the foreseeable future
