Writing poetry is about discovery. I start with an idea and I think I’m pulling the poem by a leash, but the poem is actually pulling me.

But, having some scruples left, the leader would not allow it. Instead he bid them stay back as he approached her. He knelt and asked what she was doing there. Checking a rising sob, she pointed to a twisted mass of wood on the roadside. Of all the bird site replacements I’ve feverishly joined and then eventually drifted away from, in hindsight the one I probably enjoyed the most was Mastodon for its #VerseThursday tag. Every Thursday, post a poem you like. That’s it – a simple joy. So here’s ’Kingfisher Haibun’ by Dylan Brennan.
