I think it’s important to understand that for many gay men and women, particularly older ones, the word has terrible, violent history. It’s not just people shaking their fists and yelling for the youth to get off their lawn. For some there is serious trauma attached.

Oh I understand that, but at some point people have to realise that reclaiming and empowering isn’t the same as punching down. Gay was always used in a derogatory manner when I was a kid & I still use that. When I was being bullied and assaulted it was used. I just think people can’t control others
