Eeep- not good, but yeah, not an excuse to close a station
*mad, not made. Though I guess that sorta works too?
There's a lot to be made about with the San Joaquins JPA arbitrarily cutting off service to the Antioch community of 100k people. But it's really maddening that in the SJJPA's business plan THE YEAR before they voted to cancel service, they said this about how excited they were to do TOD in Antioch
Anyone else watching the Alameda County Dem Party City Council Forum on Zoom?
SJJPA could reverse their decision at any time too. There is no real reason for them to cut off service! We need to crank up the heat to get them to reverse course. Part of how we do that is host a big event highlighting the importance of the keeping service actionnetwork.org/events/the-a... (11/x)
Come one, come all to the "The Antioch Whistlestop Tour and Celebration" for a day of adventure, music, and community. This special Bay Area Transit Month event starts with an Amtrak train ride from O...
That gets my, and the Transbay Coalition's attention. We link up with ACCE and since then been getting the elected leaders of Antioch to speak out more forcefully. City passes a resolution calling for the station to stay open. Congressmember Garamendi sends a scathing letter to the SJJPA (10/x)
Which of course ticks off the people of Antioch! The heros at ACCE Antioch jump into action and hold a protest calling attention to this terrible and unjust decision which will hurt the working class community AND reduce ridership, causing more traffic & pollution (9/x)
So the vote goes through and it's declared that when Oakley Station opens, Antioch will be closed. No ridership projections shared, no assessment for mitigating impact to Antioch people or their TOD plans that are now screwed. No timeline for residents to plan around. Nada (8/x)
