s/replacing/mixing it's tinctured in ethanol

I have a copy of a Royal Navy surgeon's log. His go-to treatment for tetanus was opium grains in wine. I got the feeling he knew exactly what he was doing to "treat" a deadly infection with no known remedy at the time.
