There was a great panel at @britfantasysoc.bsky.social's Fantasycon recently about responsibility in YA fiction, and I've been meaning to add to the conversation for a while. There's a particular type of story that I'm alert to, which I collect under the general category of 'misfire'. [1/x]
In these stories, there's generally absolutely nothing wrong with the story the author is telling. But. As an editor, I need to think of how the story will be *read*. I'm not just talking about interpretation of the story, which is something that comes down to clarity, but how it resonates. [2/x]
