Are there any good war tabletop games? I'm looking into trying Warhammer, but that'll take a bit to get minis up and painted. I just kind of miss Total War, I guess?

Good point about the why. If you know that, everything else unfolds.

Kotor I & II were the bets and no one can change my mind. BG3 close second.

Please print, laminate, and wear around town. People need to know.

What's more important for D&D? Prep or improv? I used to think prep hands down. Now, improvising lets me adapt way faster to the stories my players pursue. Prep pushes me more and more down a single track with few to no switches.

It's true movement is a huge disconnect (especially dashing). I played a homebrew once where we all commanded different stations on a star trek like federation ship... We ended up fighting each other over the smallest things. Too many cooks in the kitchen.

Damage location is interesting... I hadn't considered that tbh. Reminds me of mech parts having different hit points and uses.

I feel like I'm never satisfied by ship combat in ttrpgs and rpgs in general. Deadfire's felt awful for no particular reason... Starfinder didn't do it for me either. I've always wanted to play D&D nautical adventure, but the ship stuff just gives me pause.

As a player, I like getting Inspiration for a good moment of roleplay, or (depending on my character) heroics in combat. As a DM, I try to figure out what each character wants / is trying to accomplish and award them for progress toward that goal. Small, incremental rewards!
