Never give that energy up! I've been with my GF for 37 years, and we still take delight in how us being affectionate makes other people uncomfortable.

When people do certain things in public like that, I always got the impression they're mocking anyone who isn't married/involved/etc like "haha we're happy and you're nOOoooOoOot" (although much of that is probably cultural and regional)
