End-stage renal disease is one of the few conditions that automatically qualify US citizens for Medicare, regardless of age. Obviously this costs the government a lot of money so one way to cut down costs is to say “you can have dialysis, but you have to provide your own transportation.”

Then, when poor patients who can’t afford to drive or disabled patients who are unable to drive but don’t quite qualify for transportation assistance miss too many dialysis sessions, they get labeled “non-compliant” and lose access to their dialysis chair. Then the “cost” problem sorts itself out.

I thought Medicare included transportation services to care appointments for recipients? Or am I confusing that with Medicaid? (I know it’s covered in my state but possibly only for Medicaid or Medi-Medi patients)

Honestly surprised they even agreed to this in the first place given how fucking terrible American capitalism is Cant even imagine the current equivalent ever becoming something unequivocally covered by Medicare. How about fuck those those providers,those patients, because that’s what we have now
