A study measured the performance of 800 developers before and after getting GitHub's Copilot. It found: - No change in productivity - No change in burnout levels - A 41% increase in the bug rate!?? Aren't you thrilled we're burning the world to power these AI models?

Devs gaining little (if anything) from AI coding assistants

Code analysis firm sees no major benefits from AI dev tool when measuring key programming metrics, though others report incremental gains from coding copilots with emphasis on code review.

UKCharityCamp is a free unconference for the UK charity sector. There's more space this year, and still room for more third sector folk who are into digital to learn and share. I'm going to talk about the folk who're helping make it happen. But for now: go grab a ticket. www.ukcharitycamp.com

Oral historians: Recently reconnected with my long time transcriber, and am reminded that he is usually looking for work. Despite claims made by some about wonders of technology, manual transcription remains needed for narrative analysis and to render accents. DM for details.

Sadly not enough. I was looking for a money-on-fire emoji, surely we should have that by now

Good find. That’s a lot for only “advice”! Since it’s for a couple of years, it could still be within an acceptable range if it included content optimisation (including optimisation for AI summaries by search engines). It doesn’t seem to include any of the doing of the work though

I may be out of date on this, but it seems that there is a bit of momentum to create a new form of business that isn’t for profit (like a community interest company or similar). If you can read German, there is this: taz.de/Firmen-forde...

I think that’s exactly it: it’s all compartmentalised & tied to the legal status of the organisation. If it’s internal to Germany, lots of Germans expect the state to step up. Abroad it would be labelled as “humanitarian”. The org would probably be a “Gemeinnütziger Verein” that can take donations

Hahaha me too! I worked for NFPs for 10 years and Germans couldn’t understand why my job was needed. No good translation of nonprofit either. “Ehrenamtlich” = you’re a volunteer. “Wohltätigkeitsorganisation” implies some philanthropic spirit. I usually say “like the Red Cross”. How do you do it?
