Shocking and so sad and frustrating. 😭
Thats true, but we also stopped preventing transmission, so many of the monoclonals became ineffective due to variant changes as well. That said, paxlovid was a gamechanger.
“We had the tools”. Some we used and abused (like monoclonal antibodies). Some, were actively dismantled (like appropriate isolation length)
Thank you! And thank you for sharing!
Is COVID like the Flu or RSV? Plotted below is EVERY measured wastewater detection of COVID, RSV, Flu A, Flu B in 20 Colorado utilities since 9/4/23. Same # of utilities & axes. One of these makes my eyes pop. Note: COVID is adept at infecting the GI system, so may be more detectable in WW.
That said, there is still more COVID being detected in wastewater than RSV, though the proportion has changed dramatically in the last couple weeks: Left: week ending 10/12, Right: Week ending 10/19 (PARTIAL DATA)
Meanwhile, Covid copies in wastewater continues to drop away. The 5 day median (21k) is now the lowest recorded since May 29. However, the most recent single day median is above 300k for the first time in 1.5 years (though only represents one single utility)
RSV copies detected in wastewater (5dayavg= 19k) are higher than they were all last winter (highest 5dayavg=8k, March) (Important note: the new lab phase uses more sensitive equipment) RSV is being detected in MOST utilities. THATS ALOT OF RSV all of a sudden!
Friday Colorado Wastewater Update: After Wednesday's data showed a sharp uptick in RSV in one utility, RSV is now popping up almost everywhere, showing as detected in 15 of the 20 monitored utilities:
