As a middle school librarian- I think that change has happened with young readers and it’s great to see. So many wonderful things for them to experience that just didn’t seem to exist when I was their age.
Maybe it’s different in Europe 🤷
I think the challenge now is, when you "refine a search" in NEWS you no longer get just news - this is the banner above the search results I get:

Really love my teacher librarian job in Vermont. Schools are required to have librarians here. Teacher pay is not evenly distributed across the state though & (like everywhere) some places are more affordable than others.
