I recently made a comic complaining that NASA refuses to listen to my good ideas for improving the Solar System (xkcd.com/2750). To my delight, NASA’s Science Mission Directorate has sent me an actual expert panel evaluation of my “flatten the planets” proposal! Sadly, they decided not to fund it.

As someone who frequently needs a friend to talk to or bounce ideas off of, there's a lot of people who just don't have the skills or emotional awareness to be that person. And those who do, give so much support, comfort, safety, and grounding, just by the way they know how to listen and be there.

To everyone who's ever, been a caring ear to someone, or the person someone bounces ideas off of: You have no idea how valuable you are. You might think, "oh all I did was sit and listen" but trust me when I say you do so, so much more than just listen, and there's so many who won't do even that.
