You may be overthinking it. I think that --in most cases -- the desire to label oneself an "AI" artist is not borne out of any shame or desire to be transparent, it's pure narrative-chasing --> $$$
For this and other reasons, many AI creators center their entire concept (which is also their marketing pitch, as they hope to latch on to market sentiment around a booming tech sector) around the mere fact that the artwork was created by AI.
