When parent groups and book banners talk about "protecting the kids" they are not talking about protecting all the kids; they are talking about "protecting" white cisgender, heterosexual kids who are neurotypical and who do not have trauma or who are not allowed to talk about trauma...

They are most definitely not talking about protecting queer, trans, Black, brown, & Indigenous, neurodivergent teens, teens with mental health issues, teens who are survivors of abuse, sexual assault, & trauma. They are trying to erase & suppress our voices, to keep books from teens who need them,
