In honor of the 105th anniversary of Roger Grenier's birth (yesterday), one of my favorite lines from *A Box of Photographs*: Photographs "are trampolines for the imagination." #favoritelinefridays#rogergrenier#writingcommunity
Small but enthusiastic group today at Iowa City Senior Center's Book Report. We talked mostly about non-fiction--three recent memoirs, by Brittney Griner, Nancy Pelosi, and Fred Trump III, along with a renowned book on WWII's Operation Mincemeat by Ewen Montagu, and a classic Philip K. Dick novel.
Posting one of my own lines for #favoritelinefridays#bookbirthday#unequaltemperament The octave "was dry but not quite pure--yes, there was a beat, a small pocket of sound like a water droplet condensing on a spider's web."
A year ago today UNEQUAL TEMPERAMENT was released! Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has bought it or read it or reviewed it in the past year. Thanks also to Prairie Lights Bookstore for hosting a reading--they have signed copies available in the store and online. #bookbirthday#americanbuffalobooks
Cheryl, Anna, and Loretta, circa 1963. A glimpse of our childhood home, no longer standing. Love that look on my face! #oldphotos#childhood#thesixties
Thank you, Cory Doctorow, for this review of Blackheart Man! doctorow.medium.com/https-plural... Excerpt: "A tour-de-force from an author in full control of her prodigious powers: a story that will make you drunk on language, on worldbuilding, and on its roaring, relentless plot."
Language and worldbuilding to drown in, and a cracking novel besides.
