Democrats' immigration policy has pretty consistently always been "whatever the Republicans were advocating about twenty years ago". People really don't appreciate just how far right the Democratic party has moved on immigration.

Even Reagan, may his grave be public urinal for generations to come, gave permanent* legal status for about 2,700,000 million then undocumented immigrants. * unlike DACA, which is just a temporary grant of permission to reside in the US.

Demographics who can't vote will always be political footballs. I say this is a naturalized immigrant myself who spent nearly 20 years in that horrible system It almost doesn't matter how far to the right the Dems move bc the policy victims can't retaliate at the pollsDemographics who can't vote will always be political footballs. What's interesting is that it's not even being denied in my mentions today, instead just stating that it's smart and sensible to have "moved to the center"

In a world in which a longtime senator from the single safest Democratic seat in the country is pushing for immigration restrictions based on literal racist conspiracy theories, Democrats really need to ask themselves some existential questions. bsky.app/profile/chim...

It's hilarious and scary at the same time how Trumplicans talk about Democrats being "liberal". We don't have a major liberal party in this country. We have a center-right party and a far (and increasingly FARTHER)-right party.

Yes, and - why? There has been a constituency for a more progressive vision for ages. Why are we focused on the edges, and not the core, of the coalition, especially when 'bipartisan' has been a bad word in the other party?
