Cameron has always been obsessed with using the newest shiny technology for his movies. That served him well in the 80s. Nowadays, not so much.
All this trash is being pushed so hard to fast. I'm finally seeing regular people start to comment, "What's with all this AI crap all of the sudden?" but people aren't mad enough about it. If you ask me, the public backlash needs to be big and loud and we need it to happen soon.
Honestly, the amount of CGI in his Avatar movies probably has him hoping he can pay fewer artists to work for him.
i'd say there's definitely an element of that. twas why many celebrities and corporations tried pushing NFTs for a while; FOMO on a potential quick cash-in.
he has ALWAYS been more interested in the tech behind making his movies than he is in the actual art of making a movie, the making the movie really does seem to be just a bonus for him playing with the new toys
