Neither does Lee or Jackson though. Grant and Sherman are viewed as “modern” generals. The real Jackson, for instance, wouldn’t even fit in with modern evangelical Christianity. His beliefs bordered on a self-taught mysticism. It’s one reason I love when people hold them up. They don’t know them.

The seeming effeminacy affected by so many of that generation, as well as their conceptions of honor, are inexplicable to people today. It’s why getting in their heads can be such a challenge for serious students.
