I didn't recall it at all, I never found the hidden shop, but googling suggests it only helps for projectiles from the crown guardians?

shield and characters from game, text says Shield: This magical shield is a unique piece of equipment in that it can only be found in a shop, and must be bought for the hefty price of 95 gold. It grants the holder immunity from the projectile attacks of each crown guardian. In the MSX and NES version, only Lyll can discover the location of this shop, while in the MSX2 version, it is Roas alone who can access this shop, and only after two crowns have been collected. Retriever: Lyll.

I do remember finding the secret shop by jumping into a random inn. I swear it had no effect on any projectiles lol
