I absolutely loved the skit when it came out. It was just so incredibly quirky. And I grew up with Comedian Tom Hanks more than Serious Actor Tom Hanks so it appealed to my memories of him in Bosom Buddies, The Money Pit, & Dragnet (still one of my favorite movies).

To clarify: lack of solidarity at the local level. The national is a different matter, probably obviously.

2/2 But firefighters as individuals tend to skew conservative in my experience. And many fire departments are still less diverse than they should be. So yeah, a lot of white guys, often relatively well paid. And I often felt less “solidarity” from our members than other unions espouse.

1/2 Former IAFF member & local officer. This surprises me & doesn’t surprise me at the same time. IAFF is a long-standing union (1918) & was formed with the help of Samuel Gompers of AFL; several early locals started originally as AFL locals. Very active PAC.

No joke! Costco was in full Christmas mode last week. Though I also saw Halloween candy for sale somewhere back in early September, so maybe all the holidays are creeping early…at least from a consumerism standpoint.
