The people of the UK and France showing us that there is a path forward is exactly what we needed to see right now.
Yes! we desperately need to counter the prevailing vibe that fascists are inevitable despite the fact that their policies are unpopular and insane.
There always has been - the authoritarian right has power only because the overwhelming majority simply aren't paying attention. There always has been - the authoritarian right has power only because the overwhelming majority simply aren't paying attention.
Unless they are actually from the Champagne region of France, they are only "sparkling fascist tears". But they are just as delicious. And I plan on cracking open my own bottle come November. 🍾
As Brexit should have been an alarm about fascists propelling to power under Putin's filthy donations, this, too, might be a beacon. We tried putting the slime of humanity in power in 2016 and (shocker) it was a disaster. We don't have to repeat that mistake, no matter how badly the NYT wants it.
It is encouraging
And yet in my mentions I'm seeing a lot of "progressives" saying things like "yeah, the centrists need to make concessions to us."
We need to show up and vote!
Not to rain on the parade, but we are a really really dumb country as a whole.
Not really, sorry. 40% for "none of the above" and the far right coming third in total numbers is not a great sign for the UK. The left wings's only chance is if Labour control the message for the next 4 years and make real progress that gets people voting for them.
