I am mad at myself for allowing myself to be shocked, but I’m legit shocked. It is as appallingly cynical as anything the court has done since Bush V Gore
I am sure that we're over-reacting, because its readily apparent that any "immunity" would only apply to Republican Presidents....
Almost the entire Republican establishment has shown that it is on-board with doing whatever it takes to gain and keep power, from gerrymandering to mass lying to violent insurrection. We need to shout this truth from the rooftops & not let anyone characterize them as a normal political party again.
I’m just so glad I’m not teaching Judicial Politics this semester.
My jadedness specific to the Supreme Court has grown strong enough that this is *exactly* what I expected. That said, I *will* be surprised if there isn't a strong majority along the lines of "lol, no." No point in the batshit ruling when, one way or the other, it won't matter on November 6th.
Well put. It seemed so obviously and the circuit court was so clear and precise. This is shame on me.
crikey, i gotta turn on Ari because I haven't seen the news and now i'm not sure i want to
it's shockworthy in the sense that there was a real possibility that a far right SCOTUS looked at the polls, decided Haley was a better bet at consolidating a conservative stranglehold on the federal government, and torpedoed Trump accordingly.
It’s a fitting tribute to Mitch McConnell, the king of cynicism
That was when I concluded that it was a rigged game. The justices are all brilliant jurists and have great access to many brilliant clerks and other pros, so conjuring up a rationale using a largely ambiguous Constitution is trivial. Increasingly, they do not care about justification either.
If you want even more reason to be mad, consider that even if they don't outright grant immunity they could say "the test the DC Circuit used was wrong, here's the new one, but it's up to the lower courts to apply it to these facts" and tie everything up for another year
