I was so afraid I was being overly sensitive!

Am I going mad or is this person’s reply to me (left screenshot) extremely condescending???

User @ chrysaliscreation on Threads replied to my post about Lucy/Ruth with this comment:

“Ok so just a clarification. This is a remake of the 1922 silent film Nosferatu. This is not Dracula, Bram Stoker’s version or otherwise. So you're not going to see the same characters because this is an utterly different story. ❤️🖤❤️🖤❤️

Respectfully, your fanged friend. 😉 “
My reply was: "Yes? I know? That’s why I included the names that were the equivalent of Stoker’s characters. I clearly wrote that Ruth Harding was the Nosferatu version of Lucy, Ellen Hutter was Mina, etc. Goodness. I’m unsure why you left this comment, and it seems a little condescending... even with the emojis and the 'respectfully.'"

The second comment continues:
"It’s honestly not an open secret that this movie was an adaptation of Dracula trying to get around the refusal that Stoker’s widow gave at the same re: making a film adaptation. I’m very aware of this. I really don’t understand why you are 'correcting' me here?"

UPDATE: Apparently there is a character named Anna Harding, so maybe they just renamed Ruth?

I’m very tired of seeing ingenue characters from literature, especially classical literature like Dracula, get changed by modern adaptations to a point where they are no longer an ingenue at all. But I admit I’m rather sensitive/protective of that trope

I feel like poor Lucy gets the short end of the stick 99% of the time, and not just by canon. As much as I *love* Coppola’s film, I wasn’t a huge fan of that interpretation of Lucy. Lucy in the original novel is kind and gentle, fitting the Ingenue trope perfectly, and gosh I’m just…

Is Ruth Harding/Lucy Westenra not in this? I’m guessing this female lead is Ellen Hutter/Wilhelmina Murray (Harker) but if Ruth/Lucy has been excluded, I’m going to be sad

I just feel so bad because I really don’t know what to say back. I want to show I genuinely care and recognize that she is hurting
