Facebook post by me from October 2019 that says: I had a rant written about World Mental Health Day but deleted it because I couldn't be arsed. Tldr... it's a day where people share vacuous slogans in pretty fonts that achieve nothing. It's where people who are lucky enough to never have endured mental illness tell those of us that have that "it's OK to not be OK" when I've lost a handful of friends to suicide in the past ten years and know full-well such a statement is not just privileged guff, it's also deeply untrue. I think this day is a day to make people who don't have mental illness feel a little bit less guilty about the inaction against (or sometimes active complicity in) the way mental health is dealt with. Sorry I'm not being more upbeat. If only I'd looked at more pictures of pretty mountains instead of taking my big-pharma-sponsored evil meds, eh?
