Today in history, 1822: Joseph Marion Hernandez becomes the first Hispanic American to serve in Congress. Born in St. Augustine Florida in 1788, Hernandez was elected as the first delegate to the United States House of Representatives, where he served 6 months. 1/2
He later served on Florida’s legislative council. He passed away in 1857. He was 69. 2/2
