Someone has made the point that it is probably a short lived grift to get mad hate-dorks donating to them before they disappear forever. Because no way they are going to be able to keep up with Godot's progress without just merging every change the main repo makes.

It's also very easy for someone to just say "fine! We'll make our own fork!" And then they just hope that somebody comes along who can make that happen. It's just like those guys who said they were going to redo that one Star Wars movie.
