Ah cool! I'm guessing this is an upper division or graduate course? I'm always a fan of "getting points/checkmarks/macguffins can only help you" grading schemes, but haven't had much success outside of outcomes-based grading in balancing such point systems.
How is the optional exam factoring into their course grade, or is it just for feedback?
Realizing now that the 35th Summer Conference on Topology and Its Applications was delayed due to COVID, so the "36th" Conference ran before it, but then the 35th was renumbered to the "37th", and so the "38th" Conference last July was really the 37th, and now I'm co-organizing the "39th"/38th...
