NaNo is basically asserting that disabled people don't have what it takes to create art when they trot out the lie that scorning AI is ableist. they're saying that disabled people can't make art, not *really,* that they don't have the ability to be creative or the skill to bring an idea to earth.

It's also asserting that there's no such thing as art. It's telling us that the trash the bot spits out is as good as anything a human writer produces, and if you-the-reader claim there's a discernable, important difference, you're wrong. And also being classist and precious, and should cut it out.

They're also saying disabled people need to (and are happy to) steal from all the scraped writers to express ourselves... Which is unbelievably insulting.

And there are tools that DO help some disabled people: For example, spell check (when it works well) and predictive text (to reduce typing, and also for folks who can't pull up the word they need but will know it when they see it) - but that's NOT the kind of AI Nanowrimo is talking about.

Like come on that's insulting. But what happens to you if you fall for it? anything that's actually good? NaNo isn't trotting out this stance out of deep seated conviction. one of their major sponsors this year is Pro Writing Aid. This ain't about accessibility to anything but your wallet. (end)

This whole thing is beyond insulting to all disabled creators, myself included. I was once among that organization’s biggest fans and cheerleaders. Now I don’t even want to speak their name. And I haven’t for a long time now.
