What say we about this? According to the answer key the solution is radical 3 which I would interpret as that x doesn’t belong under the radical. So if that’s the case shouldn’t the x be i front of the radical? Or am I off base with something here? (It’s for a competition that I already hate)

It would be better if the x were in front because here we end up wondering if there’s a typesetting error. “Did they MEAN to extend that bar over the x?”

(There are lots more ex where it’s written the same way throughout the test, this is just the one I happen to be working on)
