Heck I used to go to locals and play random shit on a bootleg Neo Geo by myself. It helps you can be exactly as social as you want, because there's always something to do even if you're not talking much.

I can still go back and play it and have a great time. It didn't have the narrative or story direction of Half Life, but makes up for it with some really ambitious scale and level design. Plus the soundtrack is an all timer.
