Interesting article to run prior to a weekend where we expect a devastating heat wave and label it as “climate solutions”
meanwhile NJ PSEG is giving out free smart thermostats to make your system more efficient and it works. They even have a setting for things like running the fan for 10 minutes after the condenser shuts off since it's still cool for that time. My bill is quite a bit less from last year.
reading this in The Data Center State is amusing
"Climate Solutions: Let yourself fuckin die this summer"
Dear Consumer, this is all your fault, yours truly, Capitalism
But but but... But this factually WRONG. Cooling down a house takes more energy than maintaining a reasonable temp. Sure don't keep your house at 68, but unless it's cool enough at night to open the windows maintain the insulation and the auto setting will not have it running constantly.
[Laughs in Texan.]
Absolutely fucking insane.
This article was run almost a year ago. Also, the actual text of the article isn't nearly as alarming as just the title alone would suggest.
Adjusting your thermostat a couple of degrees warmer than what you normally keep it at could produce small savings that add up over time, one expert says.
I gotta remind myself that businesses aren't literally handing a sack with dollar bills on it to newspapers in exchange for articles like these, it's more that editors and their favorite pet writers are in the same socioeconomic class as them & their lives and politics are completely circumscribed
