As an immigrant myself this resonates. UK citizens like to call themselves expats, as if it's different - delusional colonialism as always. The cognitive dissonance on this issue is staggering in the UK. Some think they can go anywhere, but wow betide anyone coming to the UK.
Agree. It's embarrassing 😳
Totally agree with you. It's exasperating to watch this happen and I'm sorry if you've ever been made to feel unwelcome. I want to say that we don't all think like that, but alas, those with the loudest voices do. 😔
I'm an English emigrant who's an immigrant in România. I despise the term Expat personally Unfortunately, too many English/Brits don't know enough history about the horrors caused by the English Empire. They also don't understand that the vast majority of UK nationals are descended from immigrants
British people are usually very welcoming and open to any individual immigrants they meet. But there's a strong antipathy, whipped up by the right wing press and politicians, towards anonymous immigrants as a group. And as recent research shows, folk mistakenly think most immigrants are illegal.
I call myself an immigrant too
Everyone in the UK will have someone from another country in their blood. There have been people moving here - as with all countries - since time began. People need to show the respect they would want to be shown. Problem is people don't think; they just suck up whatever morons like Farage spout
At 'The Kuantan Ladies' Breakfast Club', some were bemoaning economic migrants in England I asked what the difference was between an economic migrant and us, whose husbands were working in Malaysian sectors? Cue much whataboutery and Malaysian waiting staff slipping me quiet grins of approval...

YES, exactly!!!
Dear codfather , don't forget we're all immigrants, no indigenous population in the UK
