The question I have about this entire thing is why on EARTH did a guy named "Arthur" get the nickname "Jack"?!

Could be as simple as there being a lot of Arthurs in his family or class in school, so they got varied nicknames. My sister was one of something like 12 Jennifers in her friend group, so there was Jennifer, Jenny, J, Croakie, Spores...and more. Could be he just didn't like the name Arthur.
