I live in Europe now and a 7$ bottle of wine is pretty good wine

Yeah, we pay heavy import taxes on european wines so to get a $7 european bottle here costs us about $15 which is the decent starting range for a wine here domestically produced too. Cost of production in the US is significantly higher I think.
