Enjoyed teaching my first seminars this week and last – surprisingly on protest against the Cold War arms race in the 1980s. Didn't expect to be getting students to read Thompson's Protest and Survive before The Making when I started my PhD!

We’re excited to finally have our Bluesky account up and running! As of March 15, H-Net will be using only BlueSky and Mastodon for social media. Make sure to give us a follow to stay updated on academic jobs and fellowships, cool and new digital resources, projects on the H-Net Commons, and more!

If you haven't already done so, pls take 5mins to email using the link on the ministry website 👇 The consultation documents suggest 9 questions, but a firm 'no' to the principle of digitize and destroy is the key issue IMO www.gov.uk/government/c...williamgpooley.wordpress.com/2024/01/22/t...

Finally got around to looking at some great local history publications that I got for free at Hampshire Record Office in November. They were all published by the county or city councils. Can't imagine that happening now unfortunately, especially with the county council almost bankrupt

British Library data now apparently up for sale to the highest bidder. This screenshot now circulating in the other place.

A screenshot from a ransomware site, showing an opportunity to bid for BL data. Price, 20 BTC. 6 days remaining to bid.

Update: there is now an open letter to UKRI here, calling on them to reject this attack on academic freedom and political interference in the decision-making and governance of UKRI. I would invite academic colleagues to sign and share docs.google.com/document/d/e...
