happy #fossilfriday! this is andrewsarchus, an enigmatic artiodactyl from eocene asia. first classified as a mesonychid, it is now considered a close relative of the entelodonts, which has significantly changed paleoartistic restorations of the animal (art by daniel eskridge)

note: it's unclear whether the narration in walking with beasts considers andrewsarchus a mesonychid or an artiodactyl, as it states that the animal is related to sheep and goats, but it is worth keeping in mind that mesonychidae used to be considered a sister taxon to artiodactyla
