I feel like such a hack. I just reread some stuff I wrote for the cosmology of my D&D campaign, and I got really excited about it... as if I hadn't made that shit up myself. Who gets excited about their own lore??? Hahaha
It’s very nice to have pride in your work and get energized thinking about it, it’s not a sign of being a hack. You have so many good ideas!

I will literally laugh out loud (or even get ludicrously sad) when re-reading certain bits from my own books. (Also when writing them in the first place!) Writing stuff because it's the stuff you happen to like to read (or play through!) is never a bad thing.
I dunno, I got pretty excited when I came up with the reason for the "common" language in my D&D setting; it tied in to a pre-existing legend about the gods, and just feels really epic. Frankly, when somebody says something nice about something I wrote long ago, makes me want to reread it myself.
