Butterflyfish are my faves when diving. Always in pairs, always so cute. My fave is the blue masked yellow butterflyfish from the Red Sea.
This is a shallow water one, Regal Angelfish photographed in the Red Sea at about 10m depth.
Not blackwater, just a night dive on the reef.
Just about 10cm long.
Common names, right? I thought the same and actually looked up the “official” common name to see if there was a better one. Couldn’t find a good alternative.
It’s Tosanoides aphrodite, a species we described from deep reefs in Brazil.
Yes, they live in pairs, but it’s hard to photograph them together
