Haha this design definitely could’ve been red to fit the Red Wizards. I really wanted more classic wizardy feeling stuff in blue. Chris Mooney made Spellbinding Soprano around the same time— perhaps we should’ve swapped colors. I think if it was red, it would’ve distracted the RE archetype some.

My favorite thing about green is being big. I liked the 10/10 background because it was fun w different commanders that had abilities that were reliant on their power. Giant Inheritance was an attempt at “large-sized Rancor”— it used to give hydra omnivore text iirc

I worked on White Plume Adventurer and Gavin worked on Seasoned Dungeoneer. For WPA, I wanted white to have the only initiative 3-drop because I liked white having good dungeon affinity since it was WU in AFR. White Plume Mountain is an old DnD adventure that was redone in Tales from Yawning Portal

Havi was called “Odin” (his other name) throughout design. I often wondered if having a straight analog of a mythological character should’ve counted for the historical characters serialized stuff. His abilities are mostly top-down and we settled on Havi mostly having uses in cmdr combo decks

The conceit was “hydra with auras instead of counters”. Ouphe fit the plain better. I wanted an epic experiment for auras and to bring some uncertainty to decks dominated by powerful draw engines and predictable patterns
